We are absolutely delighted to welcome you to our brand new under 2’s provision – Caterpillars Room. We opened our doors at the beginning of September 2025, and it has been a joy to see your babies arriving with smiles on their faces. They are beginning to settle in and lovely positive relationships between babies and their key person are forming.
PSED is at the heart of all we do. We foster secure attachments between baby and key person, which is why you’ll find your baby’s key person changing their nappy, offering them their bottle and helping them get to sleep. We want our Caterpillar day to mirror your baby’s routine at home as much as possible, and having this key person approach really supports this. You’ll also see that we have set up our room to be comfy and cosy, mirroring your home environment.
We are taking our time over this first half term to ensure your babies feel secure and safe in this new environment. Your babies are experiencing our low ‘highchairs’, the way we eat at nursery, our sleep room and our low cot beds, our changing table and climbing the steps up to the mat, and our garden all for the very first time. We want to give your babies time to get used to all of these, and to feel secure enough to explore the environment independently, although at the moment this might look like exploring the room with their key person close and at hand.
As the weather turns cooler and more unpredictable, our underfloor heating has been turned on. This means we can continue to be a shoe free environment, while keeping warm and toasty toes.
Please do ensure your child has an all-in-one splash suit at nursery, as we often go out for a walk onto the meadow. We will start to look at the changes in the leaves, the falling apples and other early signs of autumn.
Why not go on a nature walk and collect items like leaves, feathers, pine cones and flowers. We’d love for you to bring them in next week, so we can add them to our sensory tray!
