Governors

"At Lanterns, our ambition is for each and every child to achieve their full potential.  Through the provision of high quality, inclusive learning opportunities, and with a dedicated focus on supporting emotional wellbeing and resilience, we enable our children to grow into lifelong learners.

Lanterns works in partnership with families, the local community, and other agencies to best ensure that our children thrive."

Briony Allder, Chair of Governors

I became the Chair in September 2021, having joined initially as a parent governor, and absolutely love being part of the Lanterns Governing Body. In my day job I am a co-Director of a medico-legal business and bring 15 years experience of working in the public sector as a senior manager, in both operational and strategic roles, to the governing body. I have seen my daughter thrive during her time at Lanterns and I am committed to ensuring that the nursery school offers all children the opportunity to achieve their full potential. In my spare time I enjoy reading and creative pursuits.

Sarah Paterson, Co-opted Governor

I've been a Governor since 2017 and I'm currently the Vice-Chair of the Governing Body and Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee.  I am a qualified Lawyer so am able to support the Governing Body and the School in this area.  Our youngest daughter attended Lanterns on a SEND place and I had to give something back having seen how she was nurtured and thrived in this exceptional school, and I love every minute of it.

Nicky Crosland, Curriculum Governor

I have lived in Winchester for just over twelve years and have always worked in the early years in various roles, from managing a preschool, a year R teacher in a local school and now in early years for Hampshire. I am passionate about the importance of the early experiences we provided for children and have always been aware of Lanterns and how they strive to achieve this for all their children. I am keen to support the ongoing success of Lanterns, even in a tiny way as a governor.

Sarah Bailey, Co-opted Governor

I first became involved with Lanterns Nursery School when my son and I attended an outreach group for children with social communication disorders. After that, my son attended Grasshoppers (Lanterns’ specialist SEN class) and I fully understood the invaluable service that Lanterns provides to the local community. In my co-opted governor role and a member of the finance committee, I use my previous work experience in busy marketing departments to help to ensure financial efficiency within the nursery. In my spare time I spend lots of time enjoying the countryside with my family.

Christine Harte, Co-opted Governor

I am a retired health visitor and have been a Governor at Lanterns for several years. I chair the curriculum and extended services sub-committee and am a trustee for Friends of Lanterns so help with fundraising events and holiday garden activities. My grandchildren attended the school and had a very happy and productive time. My other interests include walking, cycling, birdwatching and learning French and Polish.

Olivia Hough, Co-opted Governor

I have experienced first hand the difference that Lanterns made to my son's confidence and learning when he attended the nursery. Early Years education is so incredibly vital and I am passionate to champion and support the school and its wonderful staff. My background is in publishing, and I have loved watching story-time, and seeing the children engage with the joy of reading. Post-pandemic I hope to come in and read to the children too.
